Emporio Armani SS26 arrives at Milan Fashion Week as more than a seasonal collection - it is a moment of homage, of closure, and of forward-looking beauty. Titled Returns (Ritorni), this is the first Emporio show following Giorgio Armani's death. The runway becomes a space of remembrance: empty yet full; refined yet emotionally raw. There is an unmistakable sense that while the designer is absent, his vision — his elegance, restraint, love for fabric — continues to pulse through every silhouette, fold, and line.


"Returns" is framed through the lens of travel — not in its glamor, but in its in-between moments: that phase after you get home, yet are still caught in the residue of migration, of horizon, of sand in your shoes. Armani uses this liminality as its palette. There are jackets unbuttoned to let fading tans show, silks that shift with movement, knitwear that catches light in soft weaves.


The opening hues are greige, sand, soft khakis — tones you see in sun-bleached landscapes and in linen turned gentle by light. In the absence of its founder's physical presence, Emporio Armani delivers what feels like the designer's last love letter: clothes that honour his legacy while staying alive to movement, travel, and light. There is beauty in the restraint. Many looks translate — linen pieces, relaxed suits, layering, and light knits — speak to both the runway and real wardrobes. The collection feels generous; elegance is couched in comfort. The prints, patterns, and references to African designs, both geometric and ikat, along with the balancing of tailoring and global ornamentation, add richness without excess. It adds a dimension of story, not costume.


Because so much of the collection is reflective and toned down, some pieces risk blending visually; standout contrast moments are few and crucial. Elements of fantasy (such as evening crystal bandeaus and parachute nylon pants) might be more complex to incorporate into more conservative or utility-driven wardrobes. The emotional weight of "Return," of homage, might overshadow the commercial narrative; translating the poignancy into sustained desirability can be a delicate balance.


Emporio Armani SS26 Returns is a quietly powerful chapter. It is a collection about coming home - home from travel, home from change, home from loss. It embodies Armani's signature elegance while allowing for imperfection: unbuttoned shirts, fading tans, and relaxed layering. It asks: how does one return after a long absence?
