When Vincent Garnier Pressiat presented his Spring/Summer 2026 collection - titled Requiem - at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026, he demonstrated a designer in transition: one who retains the seductive undercurrent of his past while building toward a broader, more wearable future.
Right from the start, there was a noticeable shift in tone. Pressiat's signature theatrical flair
-those bold silhouettes, shimmering leathers, and moody undertones—remains intact, yet here it is dialled back, refined. The collection anchors itself in rich, dark hues: black, burgundy, deep satin. Sheer layers and leather surfaces still pulse with vitality but instead of screaming for attention, they whisper with confidence.
Tailoring takes centre stage. Leather waistcoats once styled as mini-dresses now appear over tank tops and skirts; godet skirts billow with a hint of movement; oversized coats are stitched down to maintain presence without excess. The result: drama that is considered, not chaotic.
The collection revels in texture, and not just for spectacle's sake. Leather, chiffon, knits, satin— they interplay, layering and contrasting. For example, a panel of sheer chiffon might peek out from beneath a tailored jacket, the transparency softened by practical under-layers. That push-and-pull between fantasy and function is everywhere.
There's also a subtle homage to liturgical and gothic motifs. The collection's name, Requiem, hints at an elegiac mood: introspective, elegant, with a slight haunting edge. That is felt in sculptural shoulders, high necklines, and the way black leather glows under the runway lights.
What makes this collection especially intriguing is its readiness for real life. Yes, there are runway moments. But Pressiat seems to recognise the value of subtlety, of clothes that don't just look good under lights but translate into a wardrobe. The leather trousers with
V-lacing or the voluminous coat with a refined cut indicate someone shifting toward a broader audience without losing identity.
This is not to say the collection plays it safe—but the thrill now lies in the refined detail rather than overt shock. For those who love Pressiat's darker sensuality, there is much to admire. For those seeking something more grounded, there's a doorway open.
Pressiat's SS26 offering is a compelling step forward. The show feels like a designer saying: "I know who I am, and I'm ready to meet you where you are." The balance of fantasy and function, of shadow and structure, gives the collection a strong voice in a season filled with noise. It's less about spectacle and more about substance—with a refined swagger to match.
