In her Spring/Summer 2026 collection showcased at Paris Fashion Week, Shiatzy Chen channels a spirited fusion of heritage and ease—an aesthetic rooted in Chinese craftsmanship but infused with the loose-limbed freedom of '70s hippie culture. The collection, titled "Unstill,” leans into motion, symbolised by the house's reference to the horse—fluid, strong, and ever in transit.

Shiatzy Chen's framework remains the marriage of East-meets-West, but this season she re-frames it through relaxed silhouettes, expansive movement, and freer styling. Tailored vests, lace blouses, and structured suiting still appear, yet are softened by flared trousers, breezy chiffons, and a sense of casual layering. There's an equestrian vein throughout—saddle curves, leather harness-inspired straps, and bags with subtle horse-neck finishes—but these elements are infused with a freer, more youthful cadence.

The palette moves between grounded earth tones (tobacco brown, coffee) and luminous pivots (verbena blue, neon fuchsia, sun-washed stone), which together evoke both serenity and surge. Materially, there's plenty of layering: organza and chiffon that float, leather and mesh that anchor, and embroidery that whispers rather than shouts. One highlight: traditional Chinese motifs discreetly worked into modern forms, becoming less literal and more lyrical in this season's translation.

What's impressive is how the collection balances narrative with wardrobe functionality. While the show exudes high concept—the horse as a metaphor for freedom, the '70s ethos of open roads and open selves—the actual garments often retain real-world translation. A short gipao-inspired dress in baby-blue, wide-leg floral trousers edged with lace, and relaxed suits in soft fabrics all speak to a modern wardrobe that values both identity and ease. That said, the layered symbolism and print usage may demand more from the wearer: openness to movement, to statement, to a mood of transition rather than static polish.

Shiatzy Chen's SS26 is a graceful leap: from heritage to height, from structure to flow, from East and West convergence to free-spirited fusion. In an arena where fashion often pushes for extremity, this collection opts instead for rhythm and breadth—quiet power, dynamic gesture, and a wardrobe that invites motion rather than stillness. For those drawn to clothes that talk of both history and horizon, this is a richly rewarding season.
